X:绮幻之境 or X: The Land of Fantasy or simply X is a resident Cirque du Soleil production created and directed by Hugo Bélanger. It is the 45th Cirque du Soleil production since 1984 and the second resident show set in China (the first being Zaia). X: The Land of Fantasy is also a collaborative project between Cirque du Soleil and it's video and scenographic design subdivision 4U2C.[1] X: The Land of Fantasy premiered on August 10, 2019 at the Hangzhou Xintiandi Group Sun Theater in Hangzhou, China.
Synopsis[]
X: The Land of Fantasy is a quest between The Hero and The Heroine trying to find peace between the ancient kingdoms of The Petra and The Aria after a seal depicting a dragon and phoenix ying-yang crest broke many centuries ago. Left on the doorsteps of the opposing kingdoms, the heroes must unite together to reunite The Petra and The Aria. The story of X: The Land of Fantasy is narrated by a wise elder known as "The Watcher".[2]
Set and Technical Information[]
The Hangzhou Xintiandi Group Sun Theater custom-built theater with seating divided up into two sections. Each section holds up to 1500 audience members. The theater also contains two stages in a T shaped layout. The larger stage expands the length of the whole theater. It is located to the side of the seats while the main smaller stage is located between the two sections.
The smaller stage is 328.084 ft wide ( 100 m ) and is able to raise and lower. The stage is also divided into individually controlled panels (a smaller circular panel and the surrounding panel) allowing the stage to shape-shift as the story unfolds. The seats are able to rotate to 90 degrees between the two stages for audience members to follow the story.[3]

- The Watcher: The narrator for X. He unseals the world of X from the Story Box at the beginning of the show.[4]
- The Hero: Abandoned at birth, The Hero was adopted by the Aria Empress. With his trusty servant Hou, he goes on a journey to reunite the two ancient kingdoms.[4]
- The Heroine: Adopted and raised by the Petra King, the Heroine with her comic relief servant Khino join forces with The Hero and Hou to reunite The Petra and The Aria.[4]
- The Empress: Ruler of the sky kingdom Aria. She is the adopted mother of The Hero.[4]
- Hou: Hou is the loyal servant of The Hero. She is the comic relief of The Petra.[4]
- Khino: Raising The Heroine since she was a baby, Khino is the loyal servant of The Heroine. He is the comic relief of The Aria.[4]
- The Councilors: Sergeants for the King and Empress. They manipulated the King and Empress to go to war with each other.
- The Shadow Warriors: Powerful warriors and loyal servants to The Councilors. They hunt down The Hero and The Heroine to stop them from reuniting the Kingdoms.[4]
- Naga: The Dragon God of the world of X. He created the world of X with the phoenix goddess Burung. He is currently embedded into the Dragon Seal part of the Crest.[4]
- Burung: The Phoenix Goddess of the world of X. She created the world of X with the dragon god Naga. She is currently embedded into the Phoenix Seal part of the Crest.[4]
